Puklich Chevrolet, Midcontinent Communications, and the Missouri Valley Family YMCA have teamed up to bring Bismarck-Mandan the Color Splash Fun DashTM. 100% of race proceeds will go directly to the YMCA's Annual Campaign!
Funds raised from the Annual Campaign directly impact the children in our community. Kids that normally would not have the opportunity to do swimming lessons or summer day camp are able to gain those experiences because of the Annual Campaign.
- Elyse Puklich, President of Puklich Chevrolet Bismarck
We are very excited to be a part of the planning and fundraising for the Color Splash Fun Dash. It's such a fun idea, supports a great cause, and we think it will be a really big hit with the Bismarck Community.
- Jan Fipps, Retail Manager at Midcontient Communications
The Y is so excited to be a part of the Color Splash Fun Dash, to bring a concept so popular in metropolitan areas to our community. We are so grateful that Puklich Chevrolet and Midcontinent Communications support the work we do through the Annual Campaign.
- Bill Bauman, Executive Director Missouri Valley Family YMCA
The YMCA Annual Campaign
The Missouri Valley Family YMCA is committed to serving the Bismarck-Mandan Community through programs and resources that nurture the potential of kids, promote healthy living, and foster a sense of social responsibility. The Y works hard each day to turn no one away because of the inability to pay. As a nonprofit, the Y relies on the funds raised through the Annual Campaign to be able to continue to offer the programs and resources that matter to our community.
In 2013, your Y awarded $310,000 in direct financial support to individuals and families in the Bismarck-Mandan community. Each year our Y still awards more in financial assistance than it receives through charitable support.: Even with funds through the united Way, the Y still faced a charitable support gap of over $145,000.
In 2013, 934 second graders gained life-changing confidence as they learned basic swim mechanics and water safety skills in SPLASH.
Last year, we helped 64 families afford child care with a scholarship to the Youth Development Center.
Over 132 kids received a scholarship to experience the Y through Summer Day Camp in 2013. It was the opportunity to discover the bold outdoors in a fun and safe environment.
Youth Recreation Pass
Since 1981, our Y has offered a free Youth Recreation Pass to all kids grades K-6. In 2013, this pass gave 649 kids a safe, healthy, and constructive place to belong and at no cost to families.
Last year, over 607 youth and adults received financial assistance for a YMCA membership giving families the opportunity to reconnect and growth together.
New programs for 2014 include:
- Primetime Wellness at the Y
- LIVESTRONG at the YMCA
- Bridges of Hope
- 2015 Community Preschool Readiness Program

Q: Color Splash Fun Dash? Wow, that's fun to say! What is it?
A: The Color Splash Fun DashTM is a non-competitive charity 5K for all ages and all abilities. 100% of race proceeds go directly to the Misssouri Valley Family YMCA's Anuual Campaign. Your ticket donation helps provide financial assistance to youth and adults for child care, membership and programs at the YMCA. The Y gave out $310,000 in financial assistance in 2013 and, as the saying goes, "money doesn't grow on trees!" (Please note: if you are a money tree grower, we would like to meet you!)
Q: You're gonna splash WHAT on me?
A: You know your dream of becoming a human rainbow? Your wish is our command! Don't worry; all color is 100% safe, non-toxic, and also biodegradable. It is made from food grade quality cornstarch and food color. As with any substance, you will want to keep it out of your eyes and lungs. If you are overly sensitive, you may want to wear glasses or goggles for your eyes and use a bandana or dust mask for your mouth. (This is especially recommended for our younger runners/walkers). You will want to be especially careful if you wear contact lenses!
Q: This sounds awesome! I won a potato sack race once in the 6th grade, will my training be similar?
A: Hey, congrats on that potato sack race! Luckily, our race is non-competitive. So run, walk, jump, skip, or crawl to the finish line. Just be you! You'll have the time of your life…and won't be timed!
Q: Since 100% of the proceeds go to the YMCA's Annual Campaign, a place for kids and their families, can kids participate?
A: Excellent point. The Color Splash Fun DashTM is the cat's meow when it comes to family-friendly events (in fact, that was one of our top comments from the 2013 event!)
Here are the family specifics you need to know: Kids 5 and under run free with an adult, but do not receive a t-shirt - no need to register them. Here's your chance to show your kids age 6+ how much fun being active can be – be sure to register them to participate!
Q: I'm so happy this is a family event! I will probably need to bring a stroller, is that okay?
A: Jogging and regular strollers are fine (scooters, bicycles, skateboards and segways are not.) We just ask that you head to the back of the starting line crowd to minimize traffic congestion. And remember, you will be taking your kid & stroller through the color splash zones so both will end up with color on them.
Q: My dogs are members of my family, can they come?
A: While we think a multi-colored canine would be cool, pets are not allowed at the Color Splash Fun Dash.
Q: I need a new profile picture. Can I take one at the race?
A: You bet! However, if you do bring your camera, phone, or any other electronic, we recommend keeping it in a plastic bag to keep the color dust out! Also, don't forget to head over to the Color SplashFun DashTM photo op booth!
Q: Since the race is on a Sunday, should I wear my Sunday best?
A: You'll want to wear clothes you are comfortable in and aren't afraid to get SPLASHED with COLOR! Remember, you must wear your white issued 2014 Color Splash Fun DashTM shirt in some way, shape or form in order to be participate in the dash. The color will, for the most part, wash out of your clothes. However, we recommend not wearing anything that you will be upset about getting stained.
Q: Will the color stain my clothes or shoes?
A: If you want a lot of color to hit your shirt, plan to run or walk closer to the color throwers. If you want only a little bit of color, run or walk in the farthest lane from the throwers. The color is specially designed to wash out of as many surfaces as possible, but there's always a chance it could linger.
Q: I have a really rad Ninja Turtles costume; can I wear it to the Color Splash Fun Dash?
A: Heck Yes! We love costumes! The whiter the better, because it will be colorful by the finish line! But, please keep in mind, you will need to incorporate your 2014 issued Color Splash Fun DashTM shirt in some way, shape, or form into your costume in order to partipate in the dash!
Q: Will the color get in my car?
A: We will have places to clean-up before you get in your car, but you may want to bring a towel or some plastic bags along to cover your seats, just in case. However, if you do get some in your vehicle, it should be dusted away or vacuumed easily.
Q: Can I bring my neighbors (or mom, dad, aunts and uncles) to support me?
A: Absolutely! And might we say, you have cool neighbors! Keep in mind your guests may want to come expecting to get splashed with some color or make sure they stay a safe distance back.
Q: Pucklich Packet Pick-up?
A: Quick, say that 5 times fast! Your packet(s) can be picked up AT PUKLICH CHEVROLET from 7am-7pm on Friday, May 30 or from 8am-5pm on Saturday, May 31.
PLEASE NOTE: Race day packet pickup (and/or day of registration, if there are still spots available) is available 11:30am-12:45pm on site at the Color Splash Fun Dash in Cottonwood Park.
Q: Can I register the day-of the Color Splash Fun Dash?
A: Registration is limited to the first 2,500 paid participants (kids under the age of 5 are free and do not need to register). We do not anticipate still having spots available the day-of. Like us on Facebook to stay tuned!
Q: You planned a fun dash in North Dakota in June? What's the weather forecast?
A: We put our order in early, but you never know. The Color Splash Fun DashTM will be held regardless of the weather conditions, unless deemed too dangerous. In the event there is a zombie apocalypse, the event will be canceled.
Q: Can you refund my registration?
A: And miss out on all the fun?! Unfortunately, no, we do not have a way to refund registrations. However, you can still pick up your packet and race goodies, or you can transfer your registration to someone else up to 1 week prior to the event.
Q: Can I transfer my registration?
A: Yep! You can transfer your registration to someone else up to 1 week prior to the event. Instructions on how to transfer your ticket to someone else are available here.
